A Piece

Don't ask me to promise
Don't ask me to solemnly swear
Because the only thing I can do
To show you I do care
Is to cross the hole
Where my heart once was

I gave it out
Piece by piece
You'll notice people
Walking down the street
A shard of my heart on their sleeve

I'm hoping it made the difference
I'm hoping it gave them strength
To go that extra length

To soar
To dream
To wish upon a star

Because their path's hard,
And all uphill
Though, they'll travel far
If they have the will

So, I place in their trust
A piece of my heart
To give them a boost
A little head start
This is a poem that won me a literary contest and made my english teacher cry (which I felt really bad about)
